The Author

Rebecca Cordes loves jazz, our unique American art form. She hopes to inspire the next generation to carry on and expand our jazz tradition by making the process for learning to play jazz piano more plain-spoken and approachable.

Rebecca Cordes is a classically trained pianist, jazz musician, composer/arranger, teacher, and band leader.  Originally from Nebraska, Rebecca has been active on the Dallas music scene since 2010. Comfortable in both classical and contemporary styles, she can be found in a variety of performance settings, most notably playing with her band, Plus One Jazz Group.   Her artistic approach reflects her broad love of all types of music and the interconnectedness of different styles, resulting in eclectic programming and distinctive compositions and arrangements.

A dedicated educator, Rebecca has maintained a full teaching studio of more than 35 students since 2005.  Working at her home-based studio and at Greenhill School, she provides music lessons for students aged 5 to 75.  Her love of all genres of music spills over to her students, who study the classics as well as jazz and other contemporary styles.  In fact, it is her many years working to share the gifts of improvisation with her students that spurred the creation of the Jazz Piano ABCs series.  She’s forever grateful to her students for providing the inspiration and feedback to bring to life these materials.
